I'm a 20 year old who has been prescribed Ambien (10mg). I have been taking it for a few months now, and just recently I am starting to ease off of it due to health issues. However, I am out of medication right now and I know I won't be able to sleep. I have some Trazodone (50mg) that I had from the past just in case I needed one like I do now. Am I able to take Trazodone (50mg) even though last night and the past three months I've taken Ambien (10mg)?
as long as you have stopped takig the ambian the trazadone should be fine. the ambian wears off in 8 to 12 hours and is mostly out of your system in about 3 days. you should be able to take the trazodone with no problems, especialy if you haven't had any problems with it in the past.
it is interesting to note that stopping taking ambian can result in several side effects. one is withdrawles like vomiting, stomach cramps, nervousness and shakeness. this might last up to a week or more and the only way to stop the withdrawles is a weening dosage. the other most notable effect is rebound insomnia where you experance an acute inability to sleep. this usualy only lasts a day or two.
the only drug on the reaction list for Ambian was what apeared to be a narcotic called sodium oxybate which is a strong depressent.
the only other real risk of taking the other drug after you have stoped taking ambian might be an enhanced effect of the Trazodone from the ambian still in your system which might make you over sleep.
